BIG JOHN THE BAPTISMAL FONT
A sage on history, a font of experience and a seeker of great adventure, John’s life dates back to the early days of the American church as a missionary in California and the Northeast. John likes remembering the old days and telling the Gang about his adventures. |

CECILIA THE MUSIC STAND
Cecilia, a beautifully carved cherry music stand, is the newest member of the Altar Gang. She was once owned by a famous musician and singer. Her days were spent performing for thousands of people in concert halls and opera houses all around the world.

FATHER
A kind and busy priest who begged God for help with his many parish duties. God breathed on the objects in the church and brought them to life to help out father. He’s the only one who knows the Altar Gang exists. |

GUIDO THE ORGAN
Guido is an eccentric pipe organ with a flare for hospitality. Fluent in Italian, Guido insists on sharing food with anyone who comes to visit him in the choir loft. When he was young, he was shipped from Rome and installed in the parish. Guido plays with passion for the people.
JAMES AND JOHN THE ALTAR CANDLES
These twin brothers and best friends are always together. In fact, sometimes they know exactly what the other one is doing and thinking! Their playful, quick wick and fiery personality brighten up the room.
MAGGIE THE BELLS
Originally cast as a prop for a traveling play, Maggie is always cheerful and up-beat. She has the great gift of waiting on the Lord.

MARY THE CIBORIUM
Mary is loving, prayerful and wise. She and Pete are the leaders of the Gang and everyone looks up to her. Mary knows a lot about the Faith and is always willing to share her thoughts in a gentle and kind manner.

MIMI THE ALTAR CLOTH
The descendant of a great line of altar clothes, Mimi speaks the ancient language of the church. Only Pablo can translate her ancient tongue. She keeps herself especially clean and is always ready to serve Father, who received her as a present on his ordination day.

MO THE AMBO
Forever crosseyed because he reads upsidedown, Mo has been with the parish since the beginning and he is as old as the wooden beams high above the altar. Mo knows the entire Bible by heart. With a deep booming voice, he tells stories inspired by the parables and is the Gang’s resident theologian.

PABLO THE PASCHAL CANDLE
Bold and boisterous, Pablo started as a wad of beeswax. Originally in the Cathedral he watched over all those who were baptized. When the Cathedral was renovated, Pablo was put into storage. Away from the Church, he fell in with the storage bin crowd, living for himself and not caring for others. When the storage bin company closed, Pablo was thrown away. He was picked up by a garbage man and put on sale at a discount store. Father found him and brought him back into the Church.

PETE THE CHALICE
Pete is the strong, fair leader of the Altar Gang. He was handcrafted by a Benedictine Monk many, many years ago. As Father’s right-hand man, it’s his job to get everyone ready for Mass. To carry the Blood of Christ is a special honor which makes the chalice a very important instrument in the mass. That’s why Pete is the leader of the Altar Gang.

SACRISTAN
Loud and nosey. There’s no end to the work the Sacristan has to do to keep up with Father. He’s hot on the Gang’s trail too and might find out the truth about them one of these days. But for now, he thinks the church is infested with rodents.

SKIFF THE INCENSE BOAT
Skiff, a fun-loving, adventurous, and faithful incense holder, comes from a small religious shop in Spain. His parents, a poor couple who devoted their lives to making beautiful religious articles, fashioned him out of scraps of silver. Skiff was delivered by mistake to Father’s rectory. No one ever claimed him, so Father adopted him as his own and set him to work.

THOMAS THE THURIBLE
Thomas, a brilliant scholar of theology, was made in France and knows several languages. Books are very important to him and he is always reading. Wanting to discover the life of a simple parish thurible, Thomas moved to the parish and serves Father happily.
