Catholic Children’s Ministry matters because it has a big effect on human development:

  1. Moral foundation of the average American is pretty much in place by the age 9
  2. For people who have a relationship with Christ, 2 out of 3 accepted Christ before the age of 18 and
  3. the majority accepted Christ before the age of 13
  4. 1 out of 3 church going children have a relationship with Christ
  5. Since 1990 the #1 influence on children has been commercial media – a distraction from the faith for the average person is the 6.7 hours a day spent with the TV, Radio, & Internet

By age 13:

  1. Large majority of children think they know all there is to know about Christianity
  2. 69% of all children say they know all the stories and themes in the Bible
  3. 76% are convinced that their beliefs will not change in the future
  4. They have closed their minds to additional teaching on the Christian faith
  5. 1 out of 3 say they are absolutely committed to Christianity

Most Elementary School kids believe the following:

  1. Satan is not real
  2. A good person can earn a place in heaven
  3. The Bible, Koran, and Book of Mormon are different expressions of the same truths

Most post Elementary School kids do NOT believe:

  1. Their eternal destiny depends on their confession of sin and acceptance of Christ
  2. God guides history moment to moment.

Why Catholic Children’s Ministry is important:

  1. Children are key evangelistic agents – children bring other children and their parents to Christ
  2. Parents feel inadequate to teach their children the faith 
  3. Ministry to children identifies and matures future leaders
